Job Description
Histopathologists study organs, tissues, cells and genetics to help provide a diagnosis. You’ll examine patients’ organs and tissues by eye and look at cellular samples under a microscope. You’ll also undertake studies to provide diagnostic and prognostic information or determine the cause of death.

Job Responsibilities
- Discharging the duties of Specialist Pathologist as per the HAAD rules and regulations.
- Training of the Laboratory technicians to improve their performance and maintain professional standards of the laboratory.
- Performing and maintaining the quality control procedures required as per the rules and regulations of the HAAD
- Participates in the Quality Assurance activities of the Service (morbidity and mortality reviews, peer review activities etc.). Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
- Participates in hospital committee functions as assigned.
- Strictly observes organization’s medical regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, patient assessment and patient care.
- Participates in the monthly staff meetings.
- Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds.
- Provides on-call emergency coverage according to Rota.
- Adheres to the By-laws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the JCI.
- Analysis, interpretation and reporting of the histopathology specimens, cytopathology specimens and other laboratory tests in accordance with professional standards and guidelines of the health regulatory authorities such as HAAD.
- Implementation of Laboratory safety protocols to provide a safe work environment for all the laboratory staff as well as for the patients.
- Providing 24 hours services of the laboratory and blood transfusion facility for emergency patients in the hospital.
- Liaising with health regulatory authorities such as HAAD, ministry blood transfusion services, and reference laboratories.
- Participating in i-house CME programmers as well as CME programmers in other hospitals for Continued Professional Development to maintain the professional standards required for the practice of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
- Performs other miscellaneous related duties as required by the HOD.
- Comply with all OSH (Occupational safety and health) and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
- Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
- Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports
- Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
- Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
- Ensure as far as reasonably practicable that any workplaces they manage or control are safe and without risks to health, safety or the environment.
- Ensure implementation of applicable HAAD, NMCRH OSHMS and infection control policies and standards
- Ensure adequate budget and resources for FMS/OSH/PCI management.
- Designating a Safety facilitator who will be responsible for coordinating OSH activities within the department.
- Regularly discuss OSH issues or matters in departmental/ management meetings
- Ensure provision of OSH information, training and Supervision
- Implement and monitor effectiveness of risk management program
Job Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized Medical College
- One year of Compulsory Rotating Internship
- One year residency in Hematology and General Medicine
- Three years Postgraduate training in Pathology (M.D. Pathology)
- Current license in country of origin with Specialist Pathologist license from HAAD to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- 3 years of experience in various sections of Pathology.
- Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to work in cordial conditions in group practice in a hospital set up.
